Yvonne Kwok, a deserved winner
I like Amsterdam Fashion week in July because it supposed to be good weather. People hang outside, there is no need to wear tights and there are more street style photographers around Westergasterrein. But there’s another reason I like fashion week in July, because of the show Lichting. Lichting provides a platform for the next generation of fashion talent. The best 14 academy graduates of one year showed their 5 strongest graduating pieces Thursday evening. I was looking forward to the show, because the designs of all participants were strong and totally different. Different in style, concept and designs. In my opinion all collections were very creative. Good concepts in terms of originality and storytelling. In general I liked all collections, but my favorites were: David Laport. He used a combination of interesting materials of high quality, interesting shapes and different materials for his collection.
My other favorite: Yvonne Kwok. The winner of Lichting 2012. Yvonne Kwok received the G-Star Raw Talent Award. The four international Lichting judges ( Orsola de Castro, Marieke van Dongen, Corinna Springer, Margareta van den Bosch) chose her colorful carnaval inspired collection over the thirteen other collections. In my opinion a well deserved winner. The designs were innovative, colourful and detailed. Strong combinations. The designs were telling a story. Next to the fact I loved the collection, I liked the hairstyles from the models.
When the models from Esther Kruyer entered the runway I started smiling and texted my friend Tess, on the other side of the runway. All designs were Linda proof. I loved the two colored jumpsuit, the combination nude and neon pink. The shiny materials and the shape of the designs. I could wear this and walk down the streets in NYC in September.
Curious about the other fashion talents and collections, check out the video.
