Swych – Amsterdam
Often my friends or colleagues ask me for a good restaurant in the center of Amsterdam. Even though we have tons and tons of restaurants in Amsterdam and in the city center this is always a tricky question. With Swych we can add a new one to the list. A very unique, high quality and romantic restaurant. Why unique? Swych is a flexitarian restaurant. Meaning all the starters and main courses are vegetarian. Still craving for some fish or meat? Swych is switching it up, as a side dish you can order meat or fish.
Don’t think you just get a salad or a soup. Swych is serving haute-cuisine dishes for a friendly price. Lot’s of typical Dutch seasonal vegetables are used like brussels sprout, pumpkin and ‘forgotten vegetables’ like Jerusalem artichoke. This in combination with an Italian touch (parmesan cheese, basil and truffle). I’m not a vegetarian, but if I had food like this every day I had no problems being one. Starters are around €10, main courses approximately €16, and for the meat or fish lovers the sides are around 10. As sides you can order delicious grilled venison or scallops for example. The waiters can advise you on which sides goes well with which dish.
The restaurant is located in the renovated NH Collection Doelen hotel. This is the oldest hotel from the city. It was opened in 1882. The restaurant is completely white, from the floor to sealing and the furniture. The furniture have a classic twist, this in combination with the stunning few on the Amstel river (you overlook De Kleine Komedie) gives the restaurant still a warm and welcoming feeling.
