Loud hip-hop sounds popped out of the speakers at the Sportmax Fall 2012 show. We expected a edgy and urban look, the models rocked the runway with a dangerous and tough look in the eyes. The urban look was a part of the collection. Coats with masculine cuts, popped collars, bold fur lapels in colors like dark blue, white and black. Oversized sweaters made from lightweigt outerwear and wide trousers in shiny materials. The look was androgynous but on the other hand feminine, because of the curving.
Next to the urban look, Asia was a big inspiration for the Fall collection. This inspiration was identified in the collection by the dresses which were tied like a kimono. The rounded shapes of the shoulders, the sleeves on the sweaters and the sporty cut were derived from uniforms of karate and judo. We were surprised about the result of the designs with the use of the outerwear fabrics. Normally we associate these materials with fleece jackets and garments which are really intended for sports. Amazing how Sportmax worked out this material into a feminine and elegant collection.
