Sjaak Hullekes Pop-up Store – Amsterdam
One of my (Hunter Niels) favorite Dutch Male designers opened a pop-up store in Amsterdam: Sjaak Hullekes. Unfortunately the store is temporarily. The store is located in the gallery of the Conservatorium Hotel. A super authentic location that perfectly matches the collection of Sjaak Hullekes. The collection he offers are the SS13 collection, from which a big part is on sale. Moreover he is selling the new FW13 collection. Sjaak himself is in the store to help you get your new outfit. The inspiration and decoration of the room is ‘the artist’. Whether it’s a painter of a musician the store interior is inspired by the artistic lifestyle. The store specifically looks like the atelier of a painter. With drawings of nude male in the corner, and the painter’s easel as display. The 14th of July is the last day you could go shopping in the pop-up store. However no worries, for the real fans you could still go to The Hague or Arnhem.
Same day as Sjaak Hullekes opened the pop-up store he showed the SS14 collection. Not in the pop-up store itself, but in the penthouse suite of the Conservatorium Hotel a few floors higher. The collection was shown on models, but not in a regular runway. When entering the suite you arrived in the house of an artist. Clothes draped on the chairs, underwear on the bathroom floor (including sexy jockstraps), and models launching on the bed and couch of the hotel suite. A very original way to show the collection. Just like the pop-up store the collection was inspired by artists. Fabrics with a vintage look, tailored suits and open woven linen sweaters were the highlights of the collection. Metallics, neutral colors and a touch of bright red were amongst the colors of the SS14 collection. Because of this unique way of showing the collection it was more easy to see the details of the collection and the quality of the fabrics. A casual t-shirt with suede sleeves, openly woven polo shirts, and neutral socks with quadrangle textures. A luxurious, but casual collection.
