Rock and Roll meets formal
We often write about international, and worldwide known designers. But since our roots are in the Netherlands we are very proud on the talent we have in our small tiny country. One of these major, fantastic brands is Avelon. It is a very edgy brand, but has some very cool more classical looks as well. Avelon is very wearable, and has a Rock & Roll twist. For the summer 2012 collection the designs were all inspired by the square form. You can see the squares on many of the pieces: Jewelry, patchwork on the trousers, as well as square wholes in the sweaters.
Cobalt blue, bright green, black, white and several tones of grey are the colours of the women’s collection. Many of the pieces are adorned with leather and zippers. Which makes the simple Little Black Dress a nice edge. The Avelon women combines oversized jackets or tops with skinny leather jeans and platform shoes. My (Hunter Niels) favourite piece is the green dress with the purple zippers on the front and the back. I love a nice back cleavage. The collection is very varied, there are some colourblocking pieces, some see-through, beautiful drapery and surprising A-symetric looks. Hunter Linda can’t pick a favourtie piece from Avelon. She loves the style of Avelon as well for men as women and thinks the entire collection is gorgeous. The elegant designs, the fine fabrics and the wonderful colors.
The colours for the gents are quite similar to the girls, only difference is the use of beige instead of green. There are some very stylish formal looks, with well fitting jacketsand carrot shaped trousers. The Avelon men likes to be very laidback with oversized trousers, a simple t-shirt and a three day beard, but also likes to experiment with a nice bow-tie or leather trousers. In my opinion it looks a little bit like the Jared Leto style. Actually there isn’t one piece I wouldn’t wear. I specially liked the trousers with leather squares, and see-through tops. Another very special piece is the leather shirt/jacket. There is some iron-wire in it, which makes it able to form in different ways.
Overall I like the unexpected part of Avelon. Every look, looks very modern and simple on the first sight, but looking closer you see those funky details and fabrics which make the look so special.
