Patrick McDonald, Style icon
Hats are very popular this winter season. Hunter Niels showed you briefly what kind of hats to wear. However the perfect example of what kind of hats to wear is Patrick McDonald, or Mister Dandy as he is called in New York. We had(t) the luck to meet Patrick during New York and Paris Fashion Week. Back than he catched our eye for the outstanding hats he wore every single day. However Patrick seemed to be impress about our style, since he complimented us a couple of times. We were very curious what this outspoken guy did for a living, but never had the possibility to talk to him. Untill we watched the documentary of Bill Cunningham, in which he is one of the speakers. Patrick McDonald is a studio54 icon. In the 70s he worked for Fiorucci which was the “cutting edge” retailer of that decade, and then was an assistant buyer for Barney’s European collections. From there he worked for the late, lamented Fabrice, and for the past eleven years and up until recently, he was on the staff of couturier John Anthony. Patrick is just like Iris Apfel, another style icon, who isn’t affraid to stand out. He doesn’t walk out the door without wearing a hat, and some smashing make-up. Velvet and check jackets, colourful ties and breast pockets are other items Patrick is often working. here are some of our favourite shots of Mister Dandy.
