Opening Ceremony – New York
Fashion weeks, magazines, and street style all inspire us. Another big inspiration for the Lifestylehunters are concept stores. When being abroad we always have to visit one of the influential concept stores of the city. For New York this is Opening Ceremony.
Opening Ceremony was founded in 2002 by two friends, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, as a place to share their passions for travel, art, and fashion. Inspired by a trip to Hong Kong, the two decided to leave their jobs in corporate fashion to realize their unique dream. What began as a single store on a quiet street in downtown New York is now a global community with outposts in New York, London, and Los Angeles, a department store in Tokyo, a wholesale showroom, an in-house clothing line, a blog, an e-commerce site, a TV channel, and an annual magazine.
Gadgets, accessories, shoes, and clothing from all different designers. Acne, Alexander Wang, Linda Farrow, Kenzo, and Rodarte are some of the designers they have to offer. This is just a glimpse of the brands. One of the reasons why we like Opening Ceremony so much is the large variation of the brands. They seem to have all the good pieces from all the collections. Or at least all the unexpected parts of the collections. Moreover Opening Ceremony has some unique collaborations. For example one with Timberland, Spring breakers and Phillip Lim. And if someone knows how to design it are the owners of Opening Ceremony. Since two years they are the creative directors of Kenzo.
