Kloof Street House – Cape Town

kloof street garden
When in Cape Town this is one of the restaurants and bars you can’t miss: Kloof Street House. As the name already explains it’s a mansion location on the Kloof Street. The street is in the centre area, and in this neighborhood many model agencies, magazines and other creative companies are based. Although I got lot’s of tips prior my trip to Cape Town this is one we discovered ourselves. The street itself is already worth a visit with many nice bars, shops and restaurants. Definetely one of the highlights is Kloof Street House.

kloof2Without any signing from the outside Kloof Street House is sort of a hidden place. The restaurant and bar is in a beautiful Victorian house with a very romantic garden in front. Big candeliers, baroque inspired interior, chesterfields, warm red colors, combined with modern and more classical art. Interior wise Kloof street house reminds me a bit of the ‘Haunted House of disneyland’. However replace the spooky side by a super welcoming and friendly staff. If there is one thing you have to do while you are here it’s having a drink at the bar. The staff is very professional and the bartenders can make the most delicious cocktails or shots according to your likings. We had so much fun at the bar that we even ended up having dinner at the bar. We didn’t want to leave anymore. One cocktail we have to advise you is the ‘Chili Naomi’, named after my friend. I can’t remember all the ingredients but it was a mix of wodka, basil, lime and chili pepper. Almost like a spicy salad, but than in a martini glass.

kloofbarWhether it’s for an romantic dinner, a refreshing cocktail at the bar or live Jazz music on Sunday in the garden (only on Sundays), Kloof Street house is the place to be. Concerning the menu it’s a mix of Moroccon and French with local ingredients. From oysters to bouillabaisse and from ostrich steak to mezze. Personal favorite dish was the spiced lamb and the gluten free apple pie as dessert.
