In ‘t Aepjen, Amsterdam
When you are in Amsterdam, and want to go to a typical ‘Amsterdam pub’, you should go to ‘In ‘t Aepjen. This is a cafe with a history. And when having a drink here you feel and see this history. In the golden ages the people who passed by the pup were teased to come and have a drink at the bar. A few hours later they were drunk and the next morning they would wake up, with signed papers which stated that they would go on the boat to discover new countries. If they were lucky they would return back years later. During that period in time only half of the people survived those trips. That is also were the Dutch phrase ‘in de aap gelogeerd’ is from. However now-a-days mostly locals come to the pub to have their beer or ‘jenever’ (typical Dutch liquer). They probably get drunk, but no exciting expeditions anymore as far as we could tell. The bar is located close to central station so ideal for the visitors who want to get in the ‘Amsterdam vibe’.
