Het Pomphuis, Antwerp

Lately I (Hunter Niels) fell in love with Antwerp. I was there a while ago with my friends, and I wondered why I didn’t visit this city more often. It is only 1,5 hour drive by car from Amsterdam, and you are in a different country, in a city with great fashion stores and everywhere you go to the service is fantastic. One of my favourite restaurants in Antwerp is ‘Pomphuis’. It is not a new restaurant, but everytime I visit this place it impresses me. The restaurant formerly was a place that pumped out the water next to the place, to make it dry for maintenance of ships. Now decades later the building and the pump machines are still there, but now surrounded by tables and a bar. The authentic building is giving me a little “Titanic” feeling. The ambiance feels very chique, but modern at the same time. You could visit Pomphuis for breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between. The menu consists mainly of fish, but also has some dishes for the vegaterians and canibals. My favourite starter is the king krab. Everytime I am in this restaurant it reminds me of when I was a kid, and often went to Antwerp for modelling. Let’s hope many more memories of this beautiful city and restaurant will follow.
