Helping Africa a step forward
Today was the opening of the Kadangas flagship store. I (Hunter Niels) went to have a look, to see what the brand is about. Kadangas is a flipflop brand and means ‘step forward’ in African. And that is what they do. Kadangas helps the habitants of the townships a step in the right direction. Dutch shoe-designer Jan Jansen designed a collection of flipflops for Kadangas, and with every pair of flipflops you help the inhabititants of the townships. A part of the profit goes to GET IT DONE, an online platform and charity that does projects around the world (founder is Dutch actress Hanna Verboom). Another part of the profit goes to special children projects like Kids Rights. Other than that, you help the local community of Durban, South Africa, with work employment by buying a pair of flipflops. To put the emphasis on all of this, Kadangas opened a flagship store in the PC Hooftstraat, Amsterdam. The shop is a big contrast in comparison with all the extravagant expensive shops. At the launch of the shop and flipflop-line, a big group of dancers started to dance on the street, next to a corrugated iron caravan.
In my opinion a special brand, with a good cause and nice flipflops for the beach.
