Dining with Annie M.G. Schmidt

Hunter Linda discovered a new hotspot in our own hometown Amsterdam. I have to admit that this hotspot is interesting for those who have a car, live in IJburg or those who like cycling. The restaurant I discovered is called Praq. If the name Praq seems familiar to you, it is possible. Praq was for years a phenomenon in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel and moved a couple of monts ago to Amsterdam. The restaurant is accommodated in a trendy bright red shed in Waaidorp, a new cultural project named after series of books by Annie M.G. Schmidt. The properties, work and ideas of Annie M.G. Schmidt are recognizable in the concept and interior of the restaurant and the area Waaidorp. Next to the restaurant there are a lot of cultural and culinary activities that are regularly organized in Waaidorp. I must admit I had my doubts about the food and the restaurant when we reached the parking. A large led, in the middle of nowhere. But my thoughts actually changed while entering the restaurant. The staff was so friendly, we felt immediately really comfortable. Despite the idiosyncratic interior, which is really cool and really suits the concept of the restaurant, but is not really cozy and romantic at first sight, it felt like warm and cozy. The interior is designed by Frank Tjepkema and Janneke Hooymans. They combine strong conceptual principles of styling and function in their work. In my opinion a very sleek design, but because of the atmosphere, the restaurant is cozy. Regarding the menu, all dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients and organic and animal-friendly products. Which you can really taste, the food was delicious. The starter I choose was a goat cheese nougat with walnuts and parmesan cheese. It is 4 days ago I had dinner at Praq and I am still thinking about this delicious dish. For the main course I choose fish, grilled sea bass with saffron mussel sauce and brandade and for dessert I chose, not really surprising Brownie with coffe-caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. It was delicious, we had a lovely evening. It is even worth to take my bike the next time.
