Scotch and Soda, Amsterdam
Last week it was a busy week in terms of fashion events. Wednesday the X-mas salon show of River Island, Thursday the opening of the Scotch & Soda Blauw (Blue) store and Friday the Ready to Fish party of Ilja Visser.
Thursday evening, Scotch & Soda opened a new store in the Berenstraat, one of the best shopping districts of Amsterdam. The store is a denim only store where they sell the special ‘Amsterdams Blauw (Blue) collection’. The name Amsterdams Blauw comes from the colour of paint that was used in the Golden Century between 1500-1750 to paint Dutch porcelain. The name might come from Dutch heritage, however, the blue collection is inspired by American and Japanese denim aesthetics. The collection consists mainly out of denim and more exclusive items. The Hunters especially liked the denim jumpsuit for the girls, and the jeans shirts for the boys. Despite the brand Scotch & Soda is acquired by an American consortium, this still remains a Dutch product. Best way you could see that is the interior of the store. They have the coolest changing rooms, which are the traditional Amsterdam-like urinals. Usually the urinals don’t look really tempting to go in, but these are white and much cleaner than the once outside. Another thing that really spreads the denim feeling are the raw stone walls, and the edgy displays in which the denims and accessoires are shown. The Hunters had a great evening, nice people, cold beer and delicious burgers.
