Craving for Gucci
Two weeks to design a complete menswear collection and present it to the complete fashion world. That was the pressure Alessandro Michele was coping with beginning this year. Alessandro wasn’t new at Gucci. He had been at the position of head of accessories for 12 before he took over from Frida Giannini in January and took her position as creative director. The autumn/winter 2015 menswear collection was the first collection under his supervision. And what a different a day makes. After years and years of ‘sexy glamorous Gucci’ which Tom Ford gave a boost in 1994 and Frida continued with, Alessandro gave it a total new, nerdy and androgynous twist. From soccer play to romantic gender-benders. Quite a twist for a big label like Gucci. Flared high-waisted pants, chiffon shirts with a bow, and lace tops were combined in this 70ies inspired collection. Not only the collection changed, the model casting changed as well. From muscled latino’s to skinny gender-benders.
