Attention to Young Talent
At this moment I have a pit stop at home, to write a post about the shows I attended this morning and afternoon, to change clothes and make-up. Tonight there will be 3 more fashion shows on the program. And since Niels is supporting me from tomorrow, I have to hunt around alone for 2 days and really busy today. Beside the big names, designers and brand in the fashion industry, there is fortunately much attention devoted to young talent. During the LAB shows new and young designers get a chance to show their talent. Hunter Linda attended the LAB show were Jivika Biervliet and Sarena Huizinga showed their collection. The Hunters think it’s great that these LAB shows are scheduled during fashion week and we are in most cases excited about the designs and collections, because it is innovative and inspiring. The show started with the collection of Jivika Biervliet. Graduated as a menswear designer at the Utrecht School of Arts in 2010. In her opinion designers seem to be more cautious in designing for men, in contrast to this idea Jivika really want to push the limits. The collection called Forever Young, which she showed this morning was about the child inside of us that will live forever. Soft materials, warm fabrics like wool, fleece and faux fur in soft toned colors. The models made me think of sturdy, cute little babies because of the playfull elements. Pay attention when viewing the pictures on the slippers, these were amazing. After Jivika it was time for Sarena to show her collection. Sarena graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts The Hague in 2008. The last few years she developed herself as a true knitwear specialist, well known for her high quality knitwear characterized by the industrial seamless knitwear combined with traditional handcraft. Her love for knitwear occurred during her childhood, while her mum was using a lot of knitwear. When I saw the first model on the runway I was like this is so me. I really loved the dresses with the woolen ruffles, so girly but because of the combination with the material knitwear still edgy. The collection is called Wickedland, inspired by soft toys like dolls and stuffed animals wich are referred to the playful elements in the designs. I really enjoyed the show and will certainly keep an eye on Serana.
