I love the smell of baked bread and fresh coffee in the morning. This morning I made a special Easter breakfast. A giant cappuccino with soy milk, fresh bread, fresh juice, fruit and some baked goods. This breakfast reminded me of one of my experiences in Berlin, lunch at Bäckerei Alpenstueck. I had my last kaffee und kuchen in Berlin at this hotspot. If you really want to experience German homemade cooking you must have dinner in restaurant Alpenstueck or breakfast and lunch at the bakery. From apfelstrudel till Zwiebel- kuchen all dishes and products are South German-Austrian oriented and prepared with fresh, natural ingredients. I didn’t visit the restaurant but the bakery on the other side of the street. The lunch menu consists of homemade bread, salads, soups, small pasta dishes and delicious pastries. Upon entering the cafe your eyes will be drawn to the large bar filled with giant muffins, cookies, cakes and other typical German pastries. For those who know me, you understand I was hooked at the bar for at least 30 minutes. We almost missed our flight, because I couldn’t make a decission. Now, you understand why lunch at Alpenstueck was an experience for me. We chose the chocolate cake and another typical German cake. Besides the delicious sweets, the coffee was excellent. Furthermore the service and atmosphere was great. It felt like we were peeps from the neighborhood. Add Alpenstueck to your must go list.
