Akris, Fall/winter 2012
The first show we attended during Paris Fashion Week was Akris. Obviously we were extremely excited about this day. Last season we had a blast in Paris and it brought of lots of inspiration, gave us the opportunity to meet loads of new people, and as you might understand it was a boost for our website. Unfortunately we couldn’t be at all the shows, since we had obligations back in Amsterdam. Our first show was, like we told you, Akris on Sunday morning. Designer Alber Kriemler’s got his inspiration for the collection from ‘Painting no. 7’ from Franz Kline. To be honest we had no clue about this painting before we received the press release, however when googling it we do see lots of features in common with the painting.
The painting actually consists of a couple of black thick stripes and a square. These shapes we recognized in the print and patchwork used in the collection. In some pieces of the collection you recognize the geometric grid very literal, in others it was more subtil with the combination of different fabrics. This mixing of fabrics is something we have seen in allmost every show this season. The fabrics which Akris combined were for example tweed with leather. Colors which were used were: bronze, black, grey, deep purple, camel and hints of orange and green. Overall the collection showed a lot of movement: Capes worn on top of a wide high waisted trousers and dresses with a mermaid kind of tail. Hunters personal favourite items in the collection were the cape, tweed/leather suit and the bronze suit.
